New Ad Campaign Openly Depicts Gay Parents

http://www.lgbt-news.com/2011/01/raise-child-ad-campaign-puts-real-face.html
In Southern California, a non-profit organization has launched an ad campaign showing images of gay male couples with children. The group, which specializes in supporting gay fathers, seeks to nullify the perception that gay parents are unclean and unfit to raise a child. These ads appear in the form of posters, with real people on them. The campaign is not over.

I fully support this. This kind of thing is exactly what the gay community needs. Showing images of men kissing would only perpetuate ideas that gays are too sexual to raise a healthy child. Besides, so many campaigns have been focusing on sexuality that it seems like many groups have forgotten to treat their beneficiaries as the regular human beings that they truly are.

  1. I also support gay rights, however, I do think that showing pictures in magazines and billboards could be going somewhat to far. I think in the next couple decades it could be okay, but for now, I believe that there are still so many anti-gay believers out there that it could critisize the organization. Even regular people could be offended by the pictures, especially parents of small children.

  2. I support gay rights as well. In fact, my middle brother is gay and recently adopted my niece, Nattie. Of course, because of British law, he had to adopt as a single parent, so his partner does not have any official rights over my niece. I think it is okay for groups like the the one in California to advocate gay/lesbian parents because really, there isn't much of a difference. I think my niece will end up more ailenated by the people outside her family than she will by her family.

  3. I think this is a great idea to help the support of gay rights. I think a lot of people misunderstand how legitimate gay couples are in raising their children. This can definitely improve the reputation of the gay community and their stand for their rights to raise children, get married, etc.

  4. I believe that gay couples in some instances might raise their children better than others because they might be more sympathetic. Although I do believe putting posters of men kissing is stretching it. Kids with gay parents might take quite a bit of heat at school because every kid has his own opinion, and they might express it negatively to him/her.

  5. I support gay rights also, and I feel like this is a good way to raise awareness to the people that do believe gays are "too sexual." It's nice to know that someone is trying to do something to give gay men a better reputation.
