FINAL POST: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/basketball/nba/story/2012-05-15/Derrick-Rose-recovery-from-eight-months-to-a-year/54980388/1

D-Rose, who tore his ACL against the Philadelphia 76ers now knows how long his recovery will take it will take 8 months to a year. But it might not take that long with the work ethic of Derrick Rose, who works hard at everything he does. So as a Bulls fan its good to know how long it will take for him to get back to playing action and boy i cant wait.

Final Post on Witch Doctors

http://www.ugandapicks.com/2011/02/a-witchdoctor-is-arrested-for-attempted-child-sacrifice.html
So this article goes over yet another attempt at a child human sacrifice! A young boy ran away from the doctor and ran until he couldn't run anymore, collapsing by a woman's place. The woman took the boy in and tried to help him. The boy was drugged and was trying to speak. After some calming down the boy was able to speak and was brought to authorities for statements. Later it goes on to talk about this is a normal thing that happens. Then it goes on to explain protection that parents to do on their children to keep the doctors away! Apparently piercings on the child means that the child in "unpure" and therefor unfit to be sacrificed!

This to me is very disturbing! I mean really!? Number one is that their doing what their doing, but the fact that people are saying how common it is for that stuff to happen. My flag raises when I say that something needs to be done. I don't believe people have to get "use" to children being kidnapped and then killed for some money. Although I found the piercings thing kind of interesting, although I wouldn't want to be one those parents that says they don't want to get my child pierced, but to me, I'd do anything to save my child.

There are some key things I've learned about from my topic. One of them is how bad Africa is really suffering. As I surfed the web for articles for witch doctors, the evidence of Africa's suffering keeps piling up! Problems with people losing their children, houses being burned down, and so on. It's just troubling and so they have my pity. The second thing I've learned is how corrupted the countries out there are. I'm not saying Russia is the worst, but to me it seems like it's possible it might get there one day! With all the drug dealing, bribes, blackmailing, and just corruption in general, it's hard to believe Russia is able to keep itself up. The last thing that I've learned from my topics, is how little we actually do to help. My topic was "ignored foreign events" and boy are things ignored! Most of the time America knows the problem, we just don't want to do anything about it. Although with the shape America is in, I'm not to surprised really, but it seems if we don't do anything, then that's just as bad as making it worse.

Final- Obama Defends Aggressive Campaigning

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/us-election/9281350/US-Election-2012-Barack-Obama-defends-Bain-attacks-on-Mitt-Romney.html

As of May 22, President Obama is in stark defense of his "increasingly aggressive attacks on Mitt Romney's business record." Recently, the President has released statements and advertisements that declare the Republican Nominee "a vampire" for his history in capitalism. In response, even his fellow Democrats call the political turmoil "nauseating," and state that the public is sick of seeing it on both sides of the election. Soon after making this statement, Corey Booker, mayor of Newark, New Jersey, released a YouTube video recanting on his previous statement, but most view it basically as a hostage video that the Democratic Party had a hand in.

Americans deserve to hear why each candidate is fit for the role of President of the United States of America. Unfortunately, most of what the public is given amounts to a statement of, "The other guy is evil, so you should vote for me." Corey Booker got it right when he said that the whole situation is nauseating. Everyone is sick of hearing the negative qualities of candidates. We want to hear why you should win, not why your opponents should lose.

This year, by covering the 2012 Presidential Election, I have learned quite a bit. As a result of basic need, I researched each candidate and found the key points of his candidacy so that I could clearly articulate them to my classmates. From week to week I followed the Republican party delegate count and learned what to expect from specific areas of the country. Lastly, by keeping up to date on the 2012 election, I learned to appreciate American politics and see how important it is in our society. I am truly eager to see how this election will turn out, and there is no doubt in my mind that history will be made as a result.

FINAL - International Asteroid Mission

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/space/9261863/Nasa-trains-astronauts-for-asteroid-mission.html

NASA is currently training ESA astronauts (one of which is Time Peake, the first British astronaut in the ESA) for a future mission to land on an asteroid nearly three million miles away (for perspective, the moon is approximately 239,000 miles from Earth). The mission's main goal is to learn as much as possible about the origins of the universe from asteroids, and to also have experience landing and living on asteroids in the event of any potential asteroids that could threaten Earth. Currently, the astronauts are training for the low to nonexistent gravity of an asteroid by living at the depths of the Atlantic Ocean for twelve days, practicing exercises and testing equipment in the closest conditions possible to that of an asteroid. While the mission is almost entirely for scientific purposes, due to an asteroids' ability to preserve data and thus be excellent to take samples from, the mission is also in preparation for any potential disasters with asteroids. NASA is currently tracking 400 "dangerous" asteroids that have a chance of colliding with Earth in the future, yet the odds for any of them to hit are extremely minuscule. While the earliest this mission could take place in is the early 2020s, the general consensus is that, having landed astronauts on asteroids will better prepare us for any dangerous situations in the future, while also being a worthwhile scientific endeavor.

Studying the space programs, mainly NASA and the ESA, and the missions and advancements that they have made, has really shown me how important they are. NASA is mainly just viewed as an organization that occasionally sends astronauts (not anymore) up in to space. What I have learned is that there is much more to space organizations than just sending people into space: they are vital for collecting scientific data and furthering our knowledge to often make technological advances that benefit not only space exploration, but everyone. The  satellites monitor the weather to predict natural disasters and examine changes in the climate. Beyond that, I was also under the assumption that, because of NASA's budget cuts, that the organization was going to slow down its progress until it eventually disappeared. Not only is NASA still working as much as they had been before, but they're still making advances and, even if through the help of other space agencies, NASA is planning and training for future missions. While I am still in favor of a government run space agency as opposed to a privately owned and run space agency, I feel like the private space industries can be beneficial. Many of their employees are retired NASA scientists or engineers, and as long as NASA continues to push for more advancements, while private industries maintain a lesser role in the process, I have no issue with it.

FINAL- Cod growing due to global warming

http://www.arcticportal.org/news/25-other-news/673-cod-growing-due-to-global-warming

Basically this article tells about a study that was taken over the COD in the arctic and or ICE-LAND. The scientist thought that the COD here would become smaller and smaller over time due to global warming. But this happens to not be the case. The COD are actually getting bigger! They believe this is happening because when the sea water gets warmer all the life processes in the COD speed up. But this isnt all fine and dandy either. The higher temps alter the ecosystem then causing the composition of the crustaceans that the COD feed on to change.

The three most valuable and interesting things that I learned while researching the topic of Global Warming start with Farming. And how the global warming is making it harder for rice to be grown in the rice bowl which will harm their growth because rice is a major part of their diet. Another interesting thing I learned about was how the U.S. and or California was pressing for electric charging stations to be put in, they wanted to do this so it would be easier for people with electric cars. They also thought this might help make other people want to convert which I agree is a great idea. The last thing I learned that I found extra interesting is from my article above and how global warming is good and bad in the same area for these fish. I find it interesting on how different every place and or organism is effected differently by global warming.

Final Post - Japanese Opinion on North Korean Nuclear Program

Japanese Website

This source comes from a Japanese Newspaper. It states the Japanese opinion on the North Korean Nuclear Program. This particular source states that the North Korean Nuclear Program is a "Wild Card" within the world. Japan believes that North Korea is selling parts of there nuclear weapons to countries like Syria and Iran to develop there own form of a nuclear weapon. Along with countries like the United States and South Korea, Japan is condemning the actions of the North Koreans. Japan has also had a long line of problems with the North Koreans, most recently with the failed rocket launch. Japan has also been a very strong voice within the fight to stop North Korea's Nuclear Program.

Wow, Japan's position on North Korea is very similar to the United States position. I think the Japanese could be influenced by past events though. I agree that we need to slow down or even stop the North Korean Program, but I do not believe that they are a threat at this time. But then again, I am not Japan that is only a few hundred miles away from North Korea. Throughout the quarter that I have watched North Korea, they have done some crazy and disturbing things. Sometimes they can be harmless, but other times they can be hostile. I believe that the most important thing to do with North Korea is to keep talking to them. If you are talking to them, they can not do anything to harm you.

Some of the most interesting things I have learned this year in regard to North Korea include: there failed rocket launch, there jamming of South Korean Air Traffic, and generally, how crazy they can be. North Korea's failed rocket launch was probably the biggest thing I reported on this quarter. That was a major setback to the North Korean ICBM project. The world breathed of relief after that one. The jamming signal was also crazy to me. Why would you need to jam air traffic control? Well is guess they are just crazy. North Korea may be a big threat to the world, but I believe that they are more talk then action

Psychiatrist who supported gay cure admits he was wrong

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/may/19/psychiatrist-admits-gay-cure-study-flawed Dr. Robert Spitzer was responsible in part for the removal of Homosexuality from the American Psychiatric Association's index of mental disorders in 1973. This made him a hero in the eyes of the gay community. However, in 2001, he supported the results of a test which suggested that gayness could be "cured". This resulted in confusion and outrage in the gay community, which felt betrayed by a former ally. Recently, though, Spitzer has come out and said that the study was innacurate. He went further to apologize to gays for any hassel they might have gone through trying to achieve the futile task of curing their homosexuality. I learned a lot from studying gay rights. I learned that California does not allow gay marriage, the Republican Party is avoiding the issue in this election, and that homosexuality was officially considered a mental disorder in America until 1973. It is interesting how much Spitzer flip-flopped on the issue, but I suppose it goes to show that he is not really trying to cater to anyone.
