The lawyers of the Ethical animal protection is going up against the Owners of sea world, saying they enslaved 13 killer whales to be entertainment for the tourist that come. the whole problem with this law suit is whether its fare to use human entity for something that isn't a human. the Ethical group demands the release of the whales. But the Sea world company says that its far for people to learn more about Marin mammals and enjoy to animals. their also saying that even if the Ethical animal protection agency wins the case, there well be no punishment for sea world.
I believe that if the animals were born and raised in captivity, then its fare for the people of sea world to show them off to the thousands of people that go to visit sea world, because the animal was born in captivity they don't know how to survive in the wild it would be safer to keep them in captivity for the sake of the animal. If the animals were not born in captivity, and they were kidnapped then they should be set free, and the owners of the sea world should go to jail.
Interesting to divide it along whether born in captivity or not. Do the rest of you agree with that?
ReplyDeleteI watched a movie called "the cove" in my environmental biology class recently and it explained and even showed how poorly the animals are treated, so after watching that I'm actually against sea world as a whole. I've been there before and personally it was nothing to write home about... Id rather see those animals out in the wild anyway!
ReplyDeleteI agree with your point of not keeping the animals if they were caught in the wild. Even though it is good to inform people of what whales are really like, the show you watch at sea world is rehearsed, learned, and executed under the watchful eye of trainers. The shows are not the same as seeing them in the wild would be, it would be so much more exciting to see them in their natural habitat interacting with their families.
ReplyDeleteMy father had a lengthy conversation with the trainers at Sea World. Of course, they told him that they were treating the animals humanely, but they actually had some interesting evidence to back it up. The supposedly cruel stunts that they are "forced" to perform are actually all derived from natural behaviors that the orcas do in the wild. The trainers are not forcing them by starving them. They voluntarily do so because they get a treat after each stunt. If your dog knows any tricks, than the methods you used to train it were just as "cruel" as those used on the whales.
ReplyDeleteIve been to Sea World and seen the whales which is very entertaining. I agree with you that they should be kept in captivity if they were born there and had always lived there. In Orlando about a year ago, a whale drowned a trainer during a show and in that case I think it should be released into the wild, because of the threat to be a future harm to people. A more humane thing to do would be to just retire the whale.
