Gallup: Standard of Living perception
Aside from the actual facts that the standard of living may be dropping for many people in America, we cannot forget to consult Americans on what they feel their standard of living is. Around 2008 when the financial crisis began, the housing market was just starting, Americans felt their standard of living as deteriorating and rapidly decreasing. Ever since the opinion on standard of living has been low, until recently when the opinion has risen to a point where 45% say the situation is getting better and only 35% say the situation is deteriorating. Opinion isn't all that is going up, the facts are actually showing as well. The actual standard of living assessments of the middle class are rising rapidly for all of the incomes of middle class people ranging 24000 to 90000+!
This is certainly excellent news for america and most specifically the middle class. The middle class has seen significant standard of living rises as of recent to levels that were not seen since Bush. The polls and the numbers reflect each other, as the polls show Americans more optimistic and the numbers look just as optimistic. I am certainly feeling better and have personally noticed that a few more Americans are getting jobs and a few more people are gaining more happiness in the American system. The unemployment rate has gone down, and since standard of living is heavily affected by unemployment, the numbers will only get better as employment does.
