My personal opinion on this is that it is very tragic and sad to hear what happened to Trayvon Martin. It's a shame that he was killed and also that his killer has not faced any punishment for his crime. Justice is yet to be served on this topic. I can't imagine what Trayvon's family is going through so it's great to see athletes reach out to Trayvon's family and to show their support for Trayvon. Last Friday, I had noticed on Facebook and Twitter that many celebrities and athletes reached out by wearing hoodies for Trayvon. What the Miami Heat did was well respected and a great tribute to Trayvon. I highly recommend for more celebrities and athletes to show their support for Trayvon so that justice can be served and Trayvon can be remembered.

Trayvon Martin's dad thanks Heat For "Taking Notice"
Trayvon Martin's father says thanks to the Miami Heat for showing support and speaking out about his son's death. Martin is the father of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, who was shot and killed in Sanford, Fla. on Feb. 26 by a neighborhood watch volunteer who claimed self-defense and has not been arrested. On Friday, Dwayne Wade of the Miami Heat posted a photo of himself in a hooded top to his social media pages, while teammate, LeBron James tweeted a photo of 13 Heat players wearing black hoodies with their heads bowed in a tribute to the slain boy. Many athletes across the nation have reached out in support to Trayvon's family including Carmelo Anthony, Patrick Ewing, and Ray Lewis. Tracy Martin, Trayvon's mom stated that "It's like everybody's taking notice. The Miami Heat came out in their hoodies, and that's just saying, `We are people, we have hearts, we have feelings, we have emotions.' That's a warm feeling. The sports world has embraced this big-time."

My reaction to this is that it's really nice to see people showing respect to Trayvon, especially famous sports teams. In my opion as I'm sure in many others this seems like a racist crime. Racism has been around for much too long and it needs to come to an end. So it's really refreshing for celebrities to be endorcing it. And honestly I feel like the person who shot him needs to be arrested. When you commit unintentional man slaughter while drunk driving you have almost a minimun of 10 years in prison. I see no difference in what this person has done to trayvon. The only real difference is that he was fully aware of what he was doing because he was not under the influence. Also Trayvon seemed to have made no act of violence to this man so I don't see how he could be acting in self defense. This whole thing just makes me sad to think that America is still so predjiduce after everything we fought for in order to get equal rights.
ReplyDeleteI find it comforting that the Miami Heat are showing support at a time of need. I don't understand why he said it was in self defense when Trayvon wasn't even making any threatening gestures. I do not really understand why the neighborhood watch volunteer has not been arrested yet.
ReplyDeleteI think it was a bold move by them. Even though i like the Bulls i support that movement, because what happened to Trayvon should never happen to a child or no ones parents should have to go through that heartache. I don't know how to react if my son or any of my children I would have no reason to live or no life anymore. So I believe that George Zimmerman should turn himself in because he knows what he did and he is pretty pathetic because Trayvon and his family needs closure. R.I.P. Trayvon!!!
