FINAL POST: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/basketball/nba/story/2012-05-15/Derrick-Rose-recovery-from-eight-months-to-a-year/54980388/1
D-Rose, who tore his ACL against the Philadelphia 76ers now knows how long his recovery will take it will take 8 months to a year. But it might not take that long with the work ethic of Derrick Rose, who works hard at everything he does. So as a Bulls fan its good to know how long it will take for him to get back to playing action and boy i cant wait.
Final Post on Witch Doctors
http://www.ugandapicks.com/2011/02/a-witchdoctor-is-arrested-for-attempted-child-sacrifice.html
So this article goes over yet another attempt at a child human sacrifice! A young boy ran away from the doctor and ran until he couldn't run anymore, collapsing by a woman's place. The woman took the boy in and tried to help him. The boy was drugged and was trying to speak. After some calming down the boy was able to speak and was brought to authorities for statements. Later it goes on to talk about this is a normal thing that happens. Then it goes on to explain protection that parents to do on their children to keep the doctors away! Apparently piercings on the child means that the child in "unpure" and therefor unfit to be sacrificed!
This to me is very disturbing! I mean really!? Number one is that their doing what their doing, but the fact that people are saying how common it is for that stuff to happen. My flag raises when I say that something needs to be done. I don't believe people have to get "use" to children being kidnapped and then killed for some money. Although I found the piercings thing kind of interesting, although I wouldn't want to be one those parents that says they don't want to get my child pierced, but to me, I'd do anything to save my child.
There are some key things I've learned about from my topic. One of them is how bad Africa is really suffering. As I surfed the web for articles for witch doctors, the evidence of Africa's suffering keeps piling up! Problems with people losing their children, houses being burned down, and so on. It's just troubling and so they have my pity. The second thing I've learned is how corrupted the countries out there are. I'm not saying Russia is the worst, but to me it seems like it's possible it might get there one day! With all the drug dealing, bribes, blackmailing, and just corruption in general, it's hard to believe Russia is able to keep itself up. The last thing that I've learned from my topics, is how little we actually do to help. My topic was "ignored foreign events" and boy are things ignored! Most of the time America knows the problem, we just don't want to do anything about it. Although with the shape America is in, I'm not to surprised really, but it seems if we don't do anything, then that's just as bad as making it worse.

Final- Obama Defends Aggressive Campaigning
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/us-election/9281350/US-Election-2012-Barack-Obama-defends-Bain-attacks-on-Mitt-Romney.html
As of May 22, President Obama is in stark defense of his "increasingly aggressive attacks on Mitt Romney's business record." Recently, the President has released statements and advertisements that declare the Republican Nominee "a vampire" for his history in capitalism. In response, even his fellow Democrats call the political turmoil "nauseating," and state that the public is sick of seeing it on both sides of the election. Soon after making this statement, Corey Booker, mayor of Newark, New Jersey, released a YouTube video recanting on his previous statement, but most view it basically as a hostage video that the Democratic Party had a hand in.

Americans deserve
to hear why each candidate is fit for the role of President of the United
States of America. Unfortunately, most of what the public is given amounts to a
statement of, "The other guy is evil, so you should vote for me."
Corey Booker got it right when he said that the whole situation is nauseating.
Everyone is sick of hearing the negative qualities of candidates. We want to
hear why you should win, not why your opponents should lose.
This year, by
covering the 2012 Presidential Election, I have learned quite a bit. As a
result of basic need, I researched each candidate and found the key points of
his candidacy so that I could clearly articulate them to my classmates. From
week to week I followed the Republican party delegate count and learned what to
expect from specific areas of the country. Lastly, by keeping up to date on the
2012 election, I learned to appreciate American politics and see how important
it is in our society. I am truly eager to see how this election will turn out,
and there is no doubt in my mind that history will be made as a result.
FINAL - International Asteroid Mission
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/space/9261863/Nasa-trains-astronauts-for-asteroid-mission.html
NASA is currently training ESA astronauts (one of which is Time Peake, the first British astronaut in the ESA) for a future mission to land on an asteroid nearly three million miles away (for perspective, the moon is approximately 239,000 miles from Earth). The mission's main goal is to learn as much as possible about the origins of the universe from asteroids, and to also have experience landing and living on asteroids in the event of any potential asteroids that could threaten Earth. Currently, the astronauts are training for the low to nonexistent gravity of an asteroid by living at the depths of the Atlantic Ocean for twelve days, practicing exercises and testing equipment in the closest conditions possible to that of an asteroid. While the mission is almost entirely for scientific purposes, due to an asteroids' ability to preserve data and thus be excellent to take samples from, the mission is also in preparation for any potential disasters with asteroids. NASA is currently tracking 400 "dangerous" asteroids that have a chance of colliding with Earth in the future, yet the odds for any of them to hit are extremely minuscule. While the earliest this mission could take place in is the early 2020s, the general consensus is that, having landed astronauts on asteroids will better prepare us for any dangerous situations in the future, while also being a worthwhile scientific endeavor.
Studying the space programs, mainly NASA and the ESA, and the missions and advancements that they have made, has really shown me how important they are. NASA is mainly just viewed as an organization that occasionally sends astronauts (not anymore) up in to space. What I have learned is that there is much more to space organizations than just sending people into space: they are vital for collecting scientific data and furthering our knowledge to often make technological advances that benefit not only space exploration, but everyone. The satellites monitor the weather to predict natural disasters and examine changes in the climate. Beyond that, I was also under the assumption that, because of NASA's budget cuts, that the organization was going to slow down its progress until it eventually disappeared. Not only is NASA still working as much as they had been before, but they're still making advances and, even if through the help of other space agencies, NASA is planning and training for future missions. While I am still in favor of a government run space agency as opposed to a privately owned and run space agency, I feel like the private space industries can be beneficial. Many of their employees are retired NASA scientists or engineers, and as long as NASA continues to push for more advancements, while private industries maintain a lesser role in the process, I have no issue with it.

FINAL- Cod growing due to global warming
http://www.arcticportal.org/news/25-other-news/673-cod-growing-due-to-global-warming
Basically this article tells about a study that was taken over the COD in the arctic and or ICE-LAND. The scientist thought that the COD here would become smaller and smaller over time due to global warming. But this happens to not be the case. The COD are actually getting bigger! They believe this is happening because when the sea water gets warmer all the life processes in the COD speed up. But this isnt all fine and dandy either. The higher temps alter the ecosystem then causing the composition of the crustaceans that the COD feed on to change.
The three most valuable and interesting things that I learned while researching the topic of Global Warming start with Farming. And how the global warming is making it harder for rice to be grown in the rice bowl which will harm their growth because rice is a major part of their diet. Another interesting thing I learned about was how the U.S. and or California was pressing for electric charging stations to be put in, they wanted to do this so it would be easier for people with electric cars. They also thought this might help make other people want to convert which I agree is a great idea. The last thing I learned that I found extra interesting is from my article above and how global warming is good and bad in the same area for these fish. I find it interesting on how different every place and or organism is effected differently by global warming.

Final Post - Japanese Opinion on North Korean Nuclear Program
Japanese Website
This source comes from a Japanese Newspaper. It states the Japanese opinion on the North Korean Nuclear Program. This particular source states that the North Korean Nuclear Program is a "Wild Card" within the world. Japan believes that North Korea is selling parts of there nuclear weapons to countries like Syria and Iran to develop there own form of a nuclear weapon. Along with countries like the United States and South Korea, Japan is condemning the actions of the North Koreans. Japan has also had a long line of problems with the North Koreans, most recently with the failed rocket launch. Japan has also been a very strong voice within the fight to stop North Korea's Nuclear Program.
Wow, Japan's position on North Korea is very similar to the United States position. I think the Japanese could be influenced by past events though. I agree that we need to slow down or even stop the North Korean Program, but I do not believe that they are a threat at this time. But then again, I am not Japan that is only a few hundred miles away from North Korea. Throughout the quarter that I have watched North Korea, they have done some crazy and disturbing things. Sometimes they can be harmless, but other times they can be hostile. I believe that the most important thing to do with North Korea is to keep talking to them. If you are talking to them, they can not do anything to harm you.
Some of the most interesting things I have learned this year in regard to North Korea include: there failed rocket launch, there jamming of South Korean Air Traffic, and generally, how crazy they can be. North Korea's failed rocket launch was probably the biggest thing I reported on this quarter. That was a major setback to the North Korean ICBM project. The world breathed of relief after that one. The jamming signal was also crazy to me. Why would you need to jam air traffic control? Well is guess they are just crazy. North Korea may be a big threat to the world, but I believe that they are more talk then action

Psychiatrist who supported gay cure admits he was wrong
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/may/19/psychiatrist-admits-gay-cure-study-flawed
Dr. Robert Spitzer was responsible in part for the removal of Homosexuality from the American Psychiatric Association's index of mental disorders in 1973. This made him a hero in the eyes of the gay community. However, in 2001, he supported the results of a test which suggested that gayness could be "cured". This resulted in confusion and outrage in the gay community, which felt betrayed by a former ally. Recently, though, Spitzer has come out and said that the study was innacurate. He went further to apologize to gays for any hassel they might have gone through trying to achieve the futile task of curing their homosexuality.
I learned a lot from studying gay rights. I learned that California does not allow gay marriage, the Republican Party is avoiding the issue in this election, and that homosexuality was officially considered a mental disorder in America until 1973. It is interesting how much Spitzer flip-flopped on the issue, but I suppose it goes to show that he is not really trying to cater to anyone.
abusing humans like animals
http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2012/apr/27/lush-animal-cruelty-performance-art
A student of a performing arts school, put on a show of how horrible it is to test products on animals. the animals that were tested on were used to test soap. Jacqueline went through the testing while it was streaming live on the Internet. she was put through several animal test, including force-feeding, eye irritation, and saline injections. Through out the first part of the tests she show no signs of pain.the propose of this video was to seed the public about the awareness of animal testing.
I can't believe she went through this, animal testing is wrong but physically doing it to spread the word is insane. I know that all animals shouldn't be tested on but shouldn't their be a level where somethings are OK to do? Like dog food, or dogie products, i think that should be the limit. we really did talk that much about animal cruelty, but i learned that their is places in the world were it isn't illegal. The second thing i learned is people believe animals are naturally violent, but in all honesty is the environment, and the way they were raised. The last thing i learned was all different kind of animals are being abused all around the world right now...

Final Kony Blog 2012
Kony Invisible Children's campagin all started with the making of a youtube video. The outcomming goal of Kony is to make it more known so that our government will step up to the plate in helping making the arrest of Joesph Kony. While stopping the LRA (Lord's Resistance Army) an army of Kony. The LRA have captured and kidnapped young childern. Women and young girls are to be the LRA's sex slaves, while the young boys are forced to kill their family, and participate in the LRA killings.
Uganda is thankful for the video although it has some short commings. Unganda just wants to live with peace and without Kony. They appreciate the U.S. efforts to publicize the topic.
When i first started on the Kony topic it was all a movement something that a group wanted to make the public aware of the issues. It truely all soully started from a youtube video.
Another significant thing was the making of a secondy Kony video. Which brought even more of an awareness to people of the situation in Uganda and how U.S. help is still needed.
Thirdly the most exciting news update to read was that of the U.S. troops deploying and setting up camps. This is something the U.S. needed to be involuved in. Kony needs to be stopped and found. Then punished for his war crimes. Learning about Kony made me aware that their are so many world issues that don't get talked about and go on without being addressed.
Typed on Transformer couldn't figure out how to copy and paste article and website.

English Soccer Concerned About Euro 2012 Racisim
The head presient of UEFA, has raised some concern about the players and fans that could be racially abused at the European Championship matches in Ukraine. Athorities have been warning about crazy soccer fans that could cause violence at the tournament this summer, which is co-hosted with Poland. A strong British police force will be present in Poland and Ukraine. This is not the first time European Soccer will be effected by racisim since the pas 2 years, racisim has been present at soccer games.
In my opinion, Soccer is a very popular sport around the world and it's fans are very dedicated and crazy. There emotions run too high and the innocent fans and the hardworing players will be the victums of these violent, un-educated, and racist fans. Police must take a stand to protect the players and the citizens and to also let the soccer games be played. It will be intresting to see if the fans in Poland and Ukraine can be controlled and not disrupt the Euro Cup.
The most significant things I have learned overall on my topic are that racism still happens in Europe and it occurs very often, the media helps the racisim spread, and America's sports are being ruined by racisim. Racism still occurs very often in Europe and is a very big distraction to the world of Soccer. Racisim over in Europe is like how racisim was in the 50's and 60's of America. It is that bad. Also the media blows things out of proportion and is a main reason on why the Racisim is often brought up in unnessasary times. America's sports are being ruined by racisim today and not just America's sports but the whole entire world's sports are being ruined. So much racisim occurs behind everyone's backs without the whole world knowing it.Things happen off the field that ruin the actual sport. Athletes, coaches, fans, and media need to relize that with racisim, no sportsmanship is shown. Be a good sport by not being racist or judgemental. Just go out and play the game and have a good time.
http://www.vancouversun.com/health/Global+warming+spread+infected+ticks+linked/6256364/story.html
There has been a rapid growth of ticks carrying Lyme disease in Canada, thought to be caused by global warming. They are said to be in 18 percent of spots east of Saskatchewan and is expected to be at 80 percent in 2020. It is said that a high population of white-tailed deer could be carrying the ticks and facilitating them within Canada. Studies show that the warmer areas in Canada, have had a more rapid growth in ticks. Ticks are found mainly in wooded areas. The early sign of Lyme disease is a circular rash at the site of the tick bite. It is often followed by fever, joint pain, head-aches, but is rarely fatal.
In studying global warming in this class, I learned that many people don't believe in global warming, or don't believe that we are causing it. I think the most interesting thing that I learned in studying global warming was how weird things like cows burping or a car charger can affect the environment so much. I already knew that global warming was happening because of gasoline but studying it more in-depth helped me learn a lot more about it. It is also strange that a slight increase in temperature can change so many things, such as an increase in ticks in Canada, or a lot of ice melting. Studying global warming made me realize what people are doing to the only planet we have.
Drug Kingpin could sway election- Collin Lovich
According to a professor at UTEP, the top drup kingpin, Chapo Guzman, could sway the election in his favor. Chapo has a lot of influence with politicians, industrialistist business leaders, and bank and security officials which would all have an effect on the President. He also says that has detected sources of fraud by appling systematic methods. Professsor Lopez also states that Chapo could get away with almost anything he wanted because of the amount of influence he has on people.
Throughout this course, the three most significant things that I have learned about the Mexican Drug Cartel are that these drug cartels are resourceful, they are extremely violent, and that the U.S. spends millions of dollars on this problem. I always wondered how drug cartels got all of their gun and weapons. They are resourceful, because they pay off who they need to and they get their weapons however they can, even if they have to use a little persuasion. If you try to stop theses cartels they will get very violent so they can have what they want. In most cases they go after your family and cut their throats or cut of their fingers to make sure that you will obey them. And lastly, the U.S. spends millions of dollars on the drug fight in Mexico with little accomplishment. The U.S. is getting smarter with their money by not giving it to corrupt people of arming the enemy.

Final- summary and response
http://www.haaretz.com/print-edition/news/israel-report-west-bank-palestinians-may-turn-to-violence-if-peace-talks-freeze-persists-1.414980
In the Middle East their is stalled peace talks in dealing with the Palestineans and Iraelis land. They have been trying to work things out but have failed to reach any sort of agreement. Palestine has said that they feel they are working agians Israel more than they are working with them for finding a solution. Both sides are very set in their ways as far as their goals go for finding a solution, which makes it difficult to make everyone happy. The longer they wait to come to a conclusion the more the citizens are becoming violent and unhappy. There is inconsistent information as far as what Israel and Palestinean officials are saying, but as of now there is still no solution.
Thoroughout researching this topic, there are a few situations and problems that stand out from the rest. Fisrt of all seeing the different views on the same topic is very interesting and eye opening. For example the Palestineans are displaced in the land they called home for many years, but the Israelis finally have a home after being the scapegoat for countless times in history. Another situation I learned was about the nuclear unrest and how that impacts a country. Israel is the target of many attacks in the middle east and the plan of Iran getting a nuke would be terrifying to them, which would get us involved with having to protect them. Finally it opened my eyes to seeing how involved we really are in the middle east. Israel and Egypt are our largest recipents of forigen aid and that means we all have strong ties to that area because we are large investors and we recieve many things like oil from there, which is vital to the way we run our country. Overall there is alot to be taken away from this project, yet there are still many things to be learned.

Overall there is alot to be taken away from this project, yet there are still many things to be learned.
Final Blog Post- 2012 US Election
http://www.eurasiareview.com/28042012-the-2012-us-presidential-election-campaign-toward-a-defensible-defense-budget-analysis/ (Europe-Asia aka "Eurasia")
This election before late April seemed to be an election based off of the US economy and jobs. However, it seems that the election has switched to a foreign policy and defense budget election. Because of Obama's recent announcements regarding Afghanistan, Mitt Romney has taken advantage of the opportunity to present his ideas. Obama wants to cut the defense budget, while Romney wants to increase spending on our defense. Since a lot of people's big issue this coming November is spending and also foreign policy, this discussion can link to this "x" amount of people and also link into fixing the economy from the recession.
The three things I've learned from my topic is that; one, the delegate strategy from Ron Paul that people didn't think would work actually works. Two, not popular topics before like foreign policy and social issues are becoming popular with the article above and also Obama and Biden's open support for same sex marriage. And three, this race has been quite a wild one with the sudden lead changes, shock victories, and how far this race really went.

This article is about how the JCIE helped with the recovery efforts in Japan after the devestation that happened in March of 2011. This organization was working to create a more effective disaster response. Japan was not prepared for this devestation at all, which is why it needs to be changed in the future. The Japanese have been working with US organizations to see how their disaster responses differ and are more effective. They have also been trying to collaborate between US and internation funding organizations to work on the affected areas of Japan. The US discussed with the delegation to talk about Hurricane Katrina and what they did to help recover. ---- It is nice to know that the US and Japan are working together on how to resolve the problems with responding to disasters. It is helpful to use other previous natural disasters to learn from our mistakes. Especially in this article it makes it seem like natural disasters will cause less trauma in the future. If we know how to prepare and react to these disasters maybe a lot of damage can be prevented. Working together to do this will have a positive affect and should be done more often.
My topic that I covered over this class was recent natural disasters and how past natural disasters are recovering today. I actually learned a lot about past natural disasters and how they are doing today. I found out that there are still problems from past disasters that are still affecting how we live today. In most cases with hurricanes/tsunamis there is usually flooding, which results in a problem in the fish industry. This not only affects the fish and their environment but it affects how we live as a society today. I did post multiple blogs about the Japan earthquake/tsunami so I learned a lot about that. One of the things I learned is that it was one of the most expensive damage costs out of any earthquake in the past, but yet it was recovering quicker than a lot of earthquakes had. Another thing I learned that was very interesting was about the Joplin Tornado in Missouri. I was unaware of how much damage it had caused, but once I got reading about it I found out much more. Joplin worked together to fix their problems and had to restart a whole new community. Everyone that survived and was capable of helping did. It was relieving to hear that people were willing to restart their whole lives so quickly. There was a lot more information that I learned but I found those three things the most interesting. I'm glad that I could learn more about natural disasters, I feel much more informed then I did before.

Australia's Wildlife Slave Trade
http://www.habitatadvocate.com.au/?p=15866
Everyone knows of the human slave trade, but their is also another kind of slave trade going on to this day in Australia; the wildlife slave trade. Their is no law legitimising this distinction, and is excluded from the Crimes Act. Today, any form of Australian wildlife can be sold at pet stores; may they be birds, lizards, Dingos, or marsupials. To get these animals poachers are killing the parents and making bushfires. Things need to change if these animals and their habitat are going to be saved.
I think this is terrible that animal trafficing is not even noticed in Australia, while almost every other country at least admits they know it's going on. I also think that some animals should not be sold in pet stores. I mean come on a Dingos no golden retriever, and what would someone even do with a full grown kangaroo. It's just stupid and needs to end. Australia needs to change their laws so that the poachers who are destroying their forests can be stopped.
I have to say from just reading a book about animal trafficing for fun during spring break I have learned so much more about the subject. I found out America is actually not the worst in animal trafficing problems. Also that their are people who are trying to help stop animal trafficing with the use of protective wildlife parks sponsored by their governments. Lastly, I learned that most endangered speices are being created because of people destroying their habitats and taking their food sourses through the search for animals to put in the trade.

Sudan's oil production to reach 180,000 bpd by year end: Minister
http://sudantribune.com/Sudan-s-oil-production-to-reach,42569
The Sudanese oil minister Awad al-Jaz told the world that his countries oil production will reach 180,000 barrels per day by the end of 2012. He says that there is currently 70 countries bidding on their new oil blocks, US being one of them. Shortly ago, South Sudan took over a city in Sudan that was one of Sudans major sources for oil. Sudan as of now took back Heglig, but is not telling on how much oil the town still produces. South Sudan destroyed the Heglig town costing Sudan $3 billion. The main firms that operate in Sudan are Chinese, Malaysian, and Indian. They produce a total of 115,000 bpd.
I have learned many things about oil exploration throughout the world. I have learned that the Keystone XL Pipeline has its positives and negatives. I can see why Obama would not want to pass it and I can see why the Republicas want it passed. I have also learned that many countries around the world are constantly searching for oil so they can improve their economy. Lastly, I have learned the supply and demand of oil and how it relates to the gas prices increasing and decreasing.

Final Post- brandon labath
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-18157781
The global economy does not seem to be getting any better. The Eurozone seems to be the biggest threat to the future global outlook. The 17 countries that use the Euro will shrink 0.1% before rebounding to a 0.9% by next year. By that time, it is projected that the US economy will expan 2.4% this year, and 2.6% in 2013. Failure to act against the Euro could lead to worsening the European crisis and serious consequences to the global economy. It is projected that the UK economy will only grow 0.5% this year, and 1.9% in 2013. The jobless rate is at the highest it has ever been at 10.9% since 1999, when the Euro was formed.
Through out the quarter, I learned a lot about not only our economy, but the world economy. One thing I learned is that the US is in a serious position in our economy. Many places are going into debt and no one wants to buy them out. Another thing I learned is that the world economy is not any better. Many places are living on just 2 dollars a day in their life, such as many third world countries. The last significant thing I learned about the economy is that there is not enough to go around. It seems like everywhere you look countries are going into debt very fast, and soon many places, just like Grease will go bankrupt.

North Korea in Our World
North Korea is one of the most threatening countries we face today. They are already a nuclear power, and who knows if they'll use that power against us? They are the last Stalinist country on the planet, and they are pushing the rest of the world. Over the past year many things have happened with North Korea. Last December their leader, Kim-Jung Il, dead of a suspected heart attack. The new leader, his son Kim-Jung Um, is already facing international pressure. With the launch of their "satellite" in April, they violated many U.N. restrictions that have been put on them. Food Aid, which was supposed to be sent in by the U.S., has been halted until diplomatic resolutions have been conducted. This missile failed however, only 81 seconds after take-off, and was a complete embarrassment to the country. Another embarrassment is the parade of fake missiles. Designed to look like new threatening rockets, these were obviously faked to put on a good show. Another failure for North Korea as they try to gain power in the world. Since then, they've had many anti-U.S. and South Korea parades and have threatened to "take-out" both countries if needed.
North Korea is, and always will be, a small, hot-tempered country. They are a threat, no doubt, but I do not see any major war with them in the future. They are extremely weak, mostly because of their government's failures. Widespread famine and poverty cover the country, along with power-outages and drought. North Korea seems to be completely oblivious to the fact that all Stalinist countries have either failed, or converted to more of a capitalist society, as China has done. The threat is always there from this country, and we should always stay weary, but I do not think we need to make North Korea our main concern for international problems.

LRA Commander Arrested / Final
Source: wouldn't paste, okay with you.
One of the top men involved with Kony and the LRA was recently captured in the jungle and may be put on trial depending on evidence. The man's name is Acellam and he is the highest ranking former LRA member to leave the army. He may be able to not be charged as long as he participates in trying to find Kony. Uganda's defense minister said he needs to be charged thought because of all the crimes he has done. LRA members are the cause of torture and abuse but thousands of ex-members have been pardoned for participating with Ugandan authorities.
Throughout this portfolio projet, I have learned a lot about Kony and the Kony 2012 Campaign. One significant thing would be that Kony is the leader of the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) and they are really fighting for no reason at all. Another thing I have learned is that the LRA does multiple forms of awful torture. Some of these tactics are making young girls sex slaves and recruiting young boys, forcing them to kill their family or else worse things will happen. One more thing I learned is that people all over the world can come together and try to put an end to something so terrible. The Kony 2012 Campaign started in just the U.S. at first, but then it spread around the whole world and now millions more people know about it. So far, there has been tons of progress, but this won't end until Kony is captured.

Japanese director rejects anti-gay accusations
http://www.france24.com/en/20120521-japanese-director-rejects-anti-gay-accusations
This article is about Director Takeshi "Beat" Kitano and how he enraged activist after his comments about same-sex marriage on a popluar current affiars show. He said that "Obama supports gay marriage. You would support a marriage to an animal eventually, then" He really didn't mean that he sees gay people as animals just that people who love their pets way too mch would want to marry them. In Japan, homosexuality is widely accepted but is not in general openly discussed.
I have learned many things on Gay Marriage. One that there are many people out there in different coutries who hide their sexual because of fear of being lefted alone. Two, that Obama is the first sitting president to openly back gay marriage, a issue that sharply divides America. Third, that there are people who strongly agree with gay marriage. I mean who cares if you're straight or homosexual...you're still the same you, just different.

Illegal Immigrants to Blame?
All through time, someone was always the scapegoat. Everybody had to blame someone else, and this time its coming back to the illegal immigrants in the country. Last year in June, there was a wildfire in Arizona and it destroyed a vast amount of acres in Arizona. John McCain blamed the illegal immigrants for this fire, saying it was a signal, keeping warm, or a way to distract law enforcement agents. This sparked up a huge fight with McCain and many civil rights advocates. One advocate says that McCain was being "careless and reckless" and that on top of being blamed for this, illegal immigrants are blamed for Arizona's unemployment, foreclosure, and other economic issues.
I have learned a lot of interesting things about illegal immigration and what happens to them. It made me look on what really happens to them. They get blamed for a lot of issues that sometimes aren't their faults, low paying jobs, and disrespect. I just think that, if they get treated like this, why do they want to be here? Its not going to change anytime soon and people won't stop to feel sorry for them. America is filled with people who use other people as scapegoats and that's how it is going to be for a long time.
War On Terror
http://www.alliraqnews.com/en/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=10616:car-bomb-goes-off-in-northern-babel-&catid=36:security&Itemid=37
In the this article it tells about a car bomb that happened in Babel, Iraq today. It wasn't too lethal only two civilians were inured. The bomb went off near a parking garage near the hospital. Because this is an Iraq source though I am sensing a lot of bias. They haven't really given much information on the explosion or what possibly caused it. I can assume it was a terrorist group such as Al Qaeda. For all the articles I have seen from this region I have seen the same bias.
This semester I have learned many things from researching my topic in depth. One thing is that terrorist attacks are much more prevalent then I thought. Before this I thought they only happened every once in awhile. But after researching I found that multiple attacks are happening every day especially in countries such as Iraq. Another thing I have learned is that in almost all cases these people feel like what they are doing is justified. They don't do it just to kill, but they feel like they have to do it for religious or other reasons. Finally I learned that terrorism isn't something that is selective to a region. What I mean by that is it literally happens everywhere. I found places like Africa and France where I never knew terrorism was happening. I think it was really helpful being able to focus just on one topic, it helped me to really learn about my topic.

Final--Racism
http://www.todayszaman.com/columnist-272789-khojaly-massacre-and-racism.html
In 1992, Armenian forces massacred the Azeris citizens of the Turkish town of Khojaly. This massacre marked another bloody day in the Nagorao-Karabakh War. Instead of owning up to its history, Armenia refuses to agknowledge that the massacre ever happened, allowing Turkey to deny Armenian genocide. On Sunday, February 26th, Turkish nationalists gathered to commerate the massacre. The gathering soon turned violent against the Armenians. Two days later, The Human Rights Association Istanbul branch brought a complaint against the demonstrators at the commeration saying that the speeches made at the gathering as well as the slogans chanted and the signs carried held speech that would "humiliate others who have suffered extensively and attack their ethnic identity" instead of honouring those who died at the massacre. The IHD called for an investigation into the gathering and the speakers there under Turkish law.
I have learned a few things about racism over the course of this quarter. One, racism still exists in our world today. This might seem obvious, but I was suprised at the extent that racism exists today. And not just in America, but all over the world. Two, I learned that no one seems to be doing much about racism. Organizations all over the world cry out every week about an act of racism, but no one, organization or citizens, seems to want to step up and be the one to say they are tired of racism and are prepared to do anything about it. Finally, I learned there is more to racism than just colour of one's skin. Many people, in India for example, are treated wrongly just by being born in a certain city or to certain people. Even in modern England, there is still a class system that is nearly impossible to overcome.

Egypt voting/ Reflection
http://english.ahram.org.eg/NewsContent/36/122/40646/Presidential-elections-/Presidential-elections-news/Military-source-denies-plans-to-postpone-Egypts-pr.aspx
This article says that the military is denying any plans to postpone the presidential elections, scheduled in June. This means that, so far the elections appear to be going as planned. There has also been recent violence in Egypt that has caused some people to think that it will be a reason to postpone the elections further. The official date for the military to hand over power is on June 30, and the world will be waiting to see if they military stands with their promise to hold free elections or stay in power regardless.
One significant thing I learned during this course was about the U.S. weapon sales, and how we are selling technology to future enemies, so we must out-do our own technological advancements. Also, while I knew a little about Uganda, I felt like after this class I understood better the problem there not only with Kony, but the people struggling to find sustainable jobs and income in such an underdeveloped country. Lastly, something else I learned was how the many countries are becoming overpopulated because the citizens aren't educated about children and they have poor health, so many families have several children because they know some will die. This has been a very fun and interesting class!

juvenile life without parole
http://www.amnesty.org.au/news/comments/27361/
This article written by an Australian reporter talks abut how the United States must ban the "Juvenile Life Without Parole" sentence. From this reporter's opinion it is a terrible and harsh punishment for a child and should be banned. Austrailia and their government are saying that the USA must ban the imposition of life without parole sentence againt children and review the cases of nearly 2,500 prisoners currently serving such sentence. The reporter states that in the United States that children under 18 are not allowed to vote, buy alchohol, lottery tickets, or conset most forms of medical treatment but can be sentenced to die in prison for their actions. Children as young as 11 have been given this sentence.
The most important things that I have learned from this topic would be that something needs to be done about the policy that children can be tried as adults and be given life without parole. Also, I have learned tht knowing how a child's brain functions and develops is key to judging cases that could result in this sentence. The third and most important thing I learned is that services and interventions done in the jail systems need to be improved for all types of criminals to make sure that once released that they are not relapsing and making the same mistakes all over again, causing them to end up in jail once more.

Britain's Standard of Living
Britain is enjoying the second highest standard of living in the European Union, according to the guardian.co.uk. The country has seen its consumers buying more and making more than the average EU nation. Their Actual Individual Consumption is 21 points higher than the EU average, and second only to Luxomberg, the richest country in the world. AIC is measured by consumer purchases in a country and if they are used. This helps gauge standard of living by showing how much is available to a country's citizens.
Overall this year, there are three big things I have learned about economics and the Standard of Living. The first is that the decisions of the country's leader directly impacts the standard of living in a country. The second is that the higher the unemployment, the worse the standard of living. The final thing I learned is that when your country is hit by war, the Standard of Living plummets.

Ron Paul Delegate Strategy
http://www.policymic.com/articles/8030/ron-paul-wins-in-nevada-maine-and-iowa-prove-delegate-strategy-is-working
It looks like Ron Paul has been doing better than what the mainstream media has been saying for the past couple months. Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul has come in close battles in many states such as Iowa, Nevada, Maine, and North Dakota. However, the important thing in the race is the amount of delegates candidates have at the Republican National Conference in Tampa, FL in late August. At state conferences, Ron Paul has been racking up the majority of delegates in states such as Iowa, Nevada, Maine, North Dakota, Missouri, Minnesota, Massachusetts (yes, Mitt Romney's own state), and more to come. It looks like Ron Paul will have a strong showing at the national convention and this race is not entirely over.
I as an avid Ron Paul supporter was behind this delegate strategy when Dr. Paul first spoke of it. The mainstream media definitely underlays the amount of support Paul really has. It's not known exactly how many delegates Ron Paul has, but it will be a substantial amount at the convention enough for him to get on the ballot for Republican nominee. The convention will be interesting to see if Santorum and Gingrich delegates sway towards Ron Paul to represent the anti-Romney vote this coming August.
I was gone on Friday and missed the "Why Do They Hate Us?" assignment. When people were blogging, I was doing that assignment. Not sure if this excuses me from not getting full credit, but it's your decision :/

Consequences of Cutting NASA's Budget
While cutting NASA's budget has multiple consequences, this article focuses on the future lack of satellites, and more specifically, the lack of weather satellites. Of the 18 satellites that were supposed to be launched between 2007 and 2020, only two of them are close to being launched. This is mainly an issue because we will no longer be able to effectively track the weather, which means less accurate weather forecasts and the inability to properly respond to natural disasters. The overall loss of satellites, not only ones devoted to weather, will have a very large, negative impact on NASA and their ability to continue to record much-needed data about Earth. At this point, even if NASA did receive more funding, the damage would have already been done, because the process of building and launching a satellite takes too long for immediate results to be seen.
From what I've seen, cutting funding to NASA is never a good idea. Even in this economic crisis, where the government is attempting to cut funding to programs that don't necessarily need the funding, they seem to be forgetting the importance of NASA to society. This example of the weather satellites is only one of them. In the past, NASA has shown that pushing ourselves to our technological and scientific limits yields positive results. Indirectly, NASA is responsible for inventing pacemakers, our current pavement, ceramic (invisible) braces, the hand-held vacuum cleaner, the technology behind solar energy, car crash technology, life support, safer heart surgery, artificial limbs, satellite TV, and GPS. While this list isn't directly related to weather, it shows the potential that NASA has in not only increasing our knowledge about the universe, but in making life easier for us.
Also, as a side note, NASA currently receives only 6/10th of one penny of the U.S. tax dollar. The U.S. government spent more money on its bailouts in the last few years than NASA has received in its entire existence since the 1950s. Cutting NASA's budget won't help the economy, it will only hurt it.

http://www.nasa.gov/topics/earth/features/currents-ice-loss.html
Warm ocean currents attacking the underside of ice glaciers are the main cause of recent ice loss from Antarctica, a new study using measurements from NASA's Ice, Cloud, and land Elevation Satellite (ICESat) revealed. The report says the two main causes of the ice melting is warm ocean currents thawing under the ice, and warm air melting them from above. Twenty out of the Fifty-two glaciers being studied, are melting due to warm ocean currents. Most melting occurs in West Antarctica where glaciers flow down the coast and contribute to sea-level rise. ICESat was the first satellite specifically designed to use laser altimetry to study the Earth's polar regions. It was in space from 2003 until 2009 and a new one called ICESat-2, will be launched in 2016. Studies have shown Antarctic winds have changed due to the change in climate. Changing melting patterns can be attributed to changing wind patterns.
It is very cool that we have the technology to put satellites in space to measure wind patterns, and see where the glaciers are melting from. I think this could silence a lot of non-believers of global warming. It could also tell us exactly why global warming is happening in the first place. If we can use this technology for years to come it will solve many problems.

This article talks about Afghanistan and wanting to change them from heroin farmers to morphine production and think that it would stabilize the economy. It also talks about Afghanistan trying to tell NATO to stop have night raids. Afghanistan is 174th one of the poorest nations with the poorest country being 178th.
My reaction is that drug production in general needs to stop. I don't feel that a change in drug production will stabilize an economy. And i'm not sure what to think of NATO's involvement.

European Catholic Schools Urge Students to Oppose Gay Marriage
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/apr/25/catholic-church-schools-gay-marriage
In England and Wales, state-funded Catholic schools are encouraging students to sign a petition against Gay Marriage. This command comes all the way from the top; it was decreed by the Catholic Church itself. More than 385 Catholic secondary schools have been asked to do this. One London school even gave a presentation to encourage its students to sign the petition. Catholic schools have the right to teach religious views, but this practice may violage the Education Act of 1996, part of which states that no school can politically indoctrinate its students.
I think that the kicker here is the fact that these schools are funded by taxpayer money. The political manipulation of adolescents is a serious violation of ethics and law. I am disgusted with the Catholic Church for their actions regarding this issue. Furthermore, while the Church's immediate reason for their anti-gay stance is religious rather than bigoted, this course of action will encourage outright bigotry. Encouraging teenagers to sign such a petition paints homosexuals as deeply flawed individuals. I hope that the Catholic Church itself is heavily penalized for this atrocity.
Starbucks and charities
http://blogs.cfr.org/renewing-america/2012/05/03/starbucks-charity-and-job-creation-an-odd-mix-that-could-actually-work/
Starbucks is partning up with a charitiy to help stop unemployment for the untied states. Starbucks partnered up with Opportuity Finace Network, which provides finacials for the community. they loan money to the people who dont have jobs but still need the little push to get to start looking for jobs. the institution have collectived over 10 billion dollars and handed it out to the people that need it.
I believe its a great idea for starbucks to help out a worthy cause. But the problem is the people that they give the money too might not look for a job, them might use the money for selfish gain. The world has gone to it dark times and it is time for some change.

Scientists race to save world’s rice bowl from climate change.
http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2012/05/120502-southeast-asia-climate-change/
Due to climate change all around the world our Rice Bowl will suffer. In Asia we are predicting that there will become more and more flooding in the area. This will be very devastating to the farmers there because it will ruin their crops. Thus causing the people no job, and no job means no money to feed their families and themselves. The Agricultural leaders in Asia say there is no way to really fix the problem. We can only cut down the emission of greenhouse gases from the crops. One of the things the rice farmers can try is alternating wetting and drying their crops. They have a couple other ideas that should cut the emissions anywhere from 25-50% without decreasing yields.
I personally believe that people over in Asia should try and start being more green like we are in the U.S. I know it will be harder for them to do so but in the long run it will not only help their people and the crops but it will help the world as a whole by not having as much greenhouse gases floating in the air. Plus not to mention the fact of how important rice is to all of the people across Asia, and how it is one of their main food sources. But will they be able to make these small changes? I hope so.

Exotic Animals in the Gulf
http://www.cnn.com/2012/04/04/world/meast/endangered-animal-pets/index.html
In the post I read it was by a reporter for the CNN News, reporting on Ras Al Khamimah who lives in the United Arab Emirates. Khamimah owns his own wildlife park and saves exotic animals from exotic farms and the black market. He is backed by the government to care for these animals in a zoo like setting. In the United Arab Emirates it is illegal to sell exotic pets yet it is still a huge problem. Though it seems that wildlife centers like his are starting to pop up around the Gulf and that would sure help to bring down the exotic trade even more.
I am happy that Khamimah is caring for these animals and making sure they are not sold to someone who could not full take care of them or just wants them for bragging rights. Though I do not agree with him playing with his animals, especially the lions, who he says he has a special communication with. Besides that though, I did watch the clip the of the report CNN did on his wildlife park and found it to be a very nice safe place for the animals. He seems to have a nice staff, clean enclosures, and good food for them. I have no doubt that he loves these animals but lets not forget, they aren't your teacup chihuahua.

Drug War Slayings
In Mexico city, four reporters and photographers covering the perilous drug cartel crimes have been slain in less than a week after posting articles over the cartels. The area where these reports were, was in Veracruz state and two Mexican drug cartels are fighting over control of smuggling routes. They are also targeting sources of independent information in this area. This raid is threatening the media and warns to add Veracruz to the growing list of states where the cartels are going to snuff out reporters reporting on the war on drugs.
In my opinion, the Mexican government is not doing enough to stop this crisis. Innocent people are getting killed and they are just trying to do their job. This is also making reporters afraid for their lives so they are more likely to lie in the paper about the drug cartels. This needs to end and the drug cartels need to be brought down.

"Bumpy" U.S.-China Relationship
http://www.cfr.org/china/bumpy-us-chinese-relationship/p28126
The U.S.-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue is currently in progress while tensions were rising over the case of human rights activist Chen Guangcheng. Even though the U.S. and China have growing economic ties, the relationship of the countries is heading into a "bumpy period", according to CFR China expert Adam Segal. One of these stress points are from China's territorial claims in the South China Sea. Another difference in opinion is how to handle Iran and North Korea since there are nuclear threats from those countries. The two sides recently came to an agreement in the Guangcheng case, which is a step closer to solving the problems between them. This agreement was a surprising outcome and both sides are happy to not have the issue drag on.
I think the agreement in the Guangcheng case was a small step forward to keep tensions lower. The real issues between the U.S. and China is the difference in opinion on how to handle North Korea and Iran. I think the U.S. should not really care about what China thinks about the situation and keep civilians out of harms way because that is most important. Keeping North Korea or Iran from using nuclear missiles could keep us and other countries from going into a war that is not needed. The problem with North Korea is that they keep everything in seclusion and don't tell any countries what they are going to do. I think if China was smart, they would side with the U.S. and stop North Korea and Iran's nuclear programs.

North Korea Jams South Korean Air Traffic Navigation
North Korea Jams South Korea
It is said that North Korea has been busy trying to jam South Korean Air Traffic Navigation. The jamming began on April 28 and continues today. It is said at over 250 aircraft have been effect by the North Korean air jamming. Planes from Korean Air, Japanese Airliners, Fed Ex, other airliners are the companies most effect by the North Korean jamming scheme. Luckily, all of the planes have been able to stay on course and land safely due to other navigation equipment on the plane. The biggest thing effect by the jamming equipment is take offs and landings. Also, it seems that the 38th Parallel is the hot spot for the jamming equipment. This coming shortly after there failed satellite launch.
North Korea is really unpredictable and peculiar in there methods to try and isolate themselves from the world. I do not understand why they are jamming the skies around North Korea. It just makes me wonder if they are trying to cover something up. Knowing North Korea, they probably have something weird to back up why they are jamming the skies. I just do not understand North Korea. I thought with a new leader, things would calm down. They only seem to be getting worse at the moment though.

Suicide Bomber Attacks Check Post in Pakistan
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/05/world/asia/suicide-bomber-attacks-check-post-in-pakistan.html?_r=1&ref=world
In Peshawar Pakistan a Taliban suicide bomber targeted a military check post. The bomber was said to have been a teenager maybe around 17. He ended killing 19 including two senior officers, as well as injuring 57 people. This attack has been one of many recently. It is suspected that after the United states released 17 of Osama bin Laden there will be many to come, because they spoke of high civilian casualties. The attack on the military compound was staged merely one day after the U.S released them. A taliban spokesman said, " the two officials had been targeted in retaliation for the death of Sheikh Marwan, an Al Qaeda commander killed by security forces in Bajaur in 2011."
I personally don't find this surprising at all. It seems that every time the U.S does something involving the Middle East, regardless of what it is they retaliate. I think they do this just to show us that they are still willing to fight back and have not forgiven us. Also though I feel maybe it wasn't a good idea to release those letters to the public. I mean what good could really come out of it? It only stirs up fear in society, and reminds those involved in Al Qaeda what they are meant to do. But regardless of what we do things like this will continue to happen in the middle east.

Government Knows Best?
http://www.allvoices.com/contributed-news/4986757-the-witch-doctors-of-uganda
This website, gives a breif paragraph over what witch doctors are doing, have done, and continue to do today. It kind of basically recaps everything I have talked about so far. Describes what they do, what others do, and everything within the nature of those lines.
When I read this article, I have to say that I laughed. The VERY first statement is: "The African Government has admitted to witch doctors killing people in Africa to appease the Gods". If you haven't caught on, they just basically told us: 'Yah, we know whats going, but were not going to do anything about'. Whats wrong with this picture here, besides the fact their government knows whats going on, is that they are letting it continue on. I knew all the things that witch doctors did and what others have done, and still do, but everytime I read about it, it sickens me worse and worse.

Hurricane Irene - Problems Remaining
http://www.recordonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20120422/NEWS/204220325
Hurricane Irene produced 200-year to 500-year flood levels, creating some of the worst floods on record due to a hurricane. Irene occured on August 28th of 2011 and there are still problems due to these floods today. Aquatic life is one of the main issues thats still currently a problem. Fish only had two options of what to do; either stay down and outside the "flood plain" or go with the flow downstream, these options both had downfalls to them. The fish that were leaving the streams would get stuck in pooled water and be eaten by predators, and the fish that kept going downstream would have to wait until the flooding currents died down to go back to their original habitat. Because of hurricane Irene it will be years until all fish are back to where they belong
First off, I think its crazy how high the flood levels were.. When I opened this article I was expecting to read something about the damages the floods had caused, which is what almost every article is about.. So it was a nice surprise to read something that changes it up a little. I had no idea that the aquatic life was affected as much as it was. And according to the article, its still a problem now! I guess I'd never looked into what natural disasters do to the aquatic life, or even wildlife in general, so it was kind of interesting to read. Along with that it is kind of sad to hear what these storms can do to animals around the world.

Generals in Egypt Deny Role in Clashes
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/04/world/middleeast/egypts-military-rulers-deny-role-in-fatal-clashes.html?ref=middleeast
Recently, there have been clashes and some fighting in Europe over the upcoming presidential elections from each side, and 11 people were left dead from the violence. The military rulers deny they had any part in the clashes, and didn't send forces to stop the fighting until 12 hours after it began. They justify not sending forces because they say they didn't want to escalate the violence. Some of the Egyptian presidential candidates have suspended their campaigns because they are worried that the military leaders will try to postpone the elections and keep power. The military leaders say they are still committed to handing over power to the people before June 30, when elections take place.
I think whatever is going to happen in Egypt will just have to be a "wait-and-see" type of thing. There are still a lot of questions floating around as to who will become president, will the elections be postponed, or will the temporary leaders try to stay in power? From what the military is saying, they seem to be sincere in their commitment to have the elections, but that could all be an act while they try to gain more power and support. I just hope all of the violence and progress in Egypt wasn't for nothing, and that they can have some type of democratic government in the near future.

NHL Faces Racism
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ian-carey/whats-with-all-the-racist_b_1459232.html
The Washington Capitals Joel Ward, who is African-American has recently been caught in a racist battle with fans. Ward who has recently become a NHL Playoff hero for Washington has had an unforgivable display of intense public racism that many had hoped couldn't possibly take place anymore from fans. Hockey fans have been posting their racist language for the whole world to see, with some referring to hockey as a "white man's game" and telling Ward to "go play basketball". Ward isn't letting it get to him, saying that the racist tweets "Didn't ruin my day". Now the NHL has decisions to deal with this racism taking place on the ice-rink.
In my opinion, It makes me disappointed and angry that some hockey fans showed their anger by tweeting about how Joel Ward is black and is playing hockey. The game of hockey is being played by more different races today as we speak. Hockey is becoming a huge international sport. Joel Ward is becoming a huge star in the NHL, so we should not let racist fans stop him from doing so. The NHL needs to take action of these racist fans and tweets for the sake of the league. We have yet to see the NHL take action on concussions, head shots, or fighting so perhaps if Gary Bettman, and company decide that stamping out racism isn't on their agenda it's time to seriously question the leadership of hockey's most prominent league. Changes must be made.

On Wednesday Former NFL phenom Junior Seau was found dead in his Oceanside, California home from a self inflicted gunshot wound to the chest. It was later known he committed suicide. Seau a NFL veteran of 20 years played his first 13 seasons with his hometown San Diego Chargers, then played for the Miami Dolphins for three seasons also was a 12x pro-bowl attendee, then finished out his career with the New England Patriots for four seasons. He said he would retire in 2010, but he never officially retired from the NFL. He accomplished so much in his 20 year career and its sad to see it all end this way, I was a huge fan of Junior Seau and had so much respect for him for play football for 20 years I hope to play that long when I make it, so Junior Seau hate to see you go but R.I.P.
New Act to Stop Atrocities
An atrocities is a extremely cruel act mostly used in war. This has been a big problem in Africa and all over the world, and almost always used in mostly every war. The United States has created the Atrocities Prevention Board which helps improve early warnings and immediate response for mass atrocities. This is a big commitment to help with all the issues in Africa about the atrocities. This APB program helps prevent counter genocide and mass atrocities. People are starting to have their doubts, due to previous failures of these types of programs. The U.S. has found this very difficult to response and often is either too little or too late. In the 1990s, the government tried to make a program like this, and it didn't even outlive the Clinton Administration.
I think this is a good idea and its a start. With all the technology in the world, this shouldn't be that hard to master in time. Once the U.S. and other countries learn what to do to make this successful, this could easily stop all the genocide and save millions of lives. The only set back they have, that I can think of, is that they can't always track were all the RUF and other soldiers may be before they attack. All in all, this is a good idea and could be a very successful program, just when they learn to use it.

The Price of Peace in Uganda
http://www.cfr.org/uganda/price-peace-uganda/p13913
This blog was posted by a reporter from the Washington Post. The reporter talks about how he visited the city of Kampala in Uganda. He states that he met many villagers who had been deeply affected by the LRA, a cultish rebel group that has caused perhaps 100,000 deaths and displaced more than 1.5 million people, lead by Joseph Kony. He said the one story that sticks in his mind is when a young woman, who had been abducted by the LRA, told him that the army made them have a "welcoming meal" after they were abducted which consisted of the dead bodies of their own neighbors. This was to instill fear on the captured people.
I think that this is very disturbing. I knew that Kony and the LRA did terrible things to the villagers that they abduct but to make them fear one another and even themselves is just heartless. I cannot even imagine what goes on in his head when he thinks of things to scare and harm these innocent people, and especially children. I cant imagine either seeing it first had like this reporter did. I think I would be so overwhelmed with emotion for these people that I wouldn't even know what to do or how to help them.

Israeli and Palestinian Land Disputes
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-14515035
This article goes over how the land in Israel is holy to various religious groups. Many of the names of cities however are different in each religion, even though it is the same city. The article goes on to say that each group believes that their name of the city is proper which causes some controversy. Since the land is in Israel, the official names tend to relate more towards their religious beliefs. The names are making other religious groups angry because the name does not reflect on their historic history. This makes many citizens who are not Jewish upset because the land that they have grown up on and come to know is changing and there is not much they can do about it.
I'm a little conflicted about this, I do not think that other countries should be able to control what they call their towns just because they have a religious history there. The naming of the cities should belong to Israel because they are part of their state. Many of the names that have been changed to Israeli names though are having a hard time catching on though because many other ethnic and religious groups still refer to them as their old name. I think that it is an okay thing for Israel to change the names, but on the other hand they are well know by people and the names on maps. A change that could cause people to get confused or lost may not be the best idea, but its their choice. The least they could do is put a sign that says "previously such and such town, now Jerusalem". This may help people not getting lost and for the people who live there can get used to the change.

Mother, attorney, defend accused Tulsa shooter-Racism
http://www.cnn.com/2012/04/17/justice/oklahoma-shootings/index.html?hpt=ju_bn2
The mother of Jake England, one of the two men accused of shooting and killing three African-American men in Tulsa defended her son as a "very good kid" on Tuesday. England's mother, Mabel Bassett, who is currently serving eighteen years for arson, said she cannot wrap her head around the fact that her son was accused of the murders. Two days after he posted about his father's death at the hands of f***ing n****r, England and his friend Alvin Watts went on a shooting spree. On Monday, not guilty pleas were added in for England and Watts, who are being held without bail pending a May 30 hearing. England's lawyer claims that, despite the post, his client is not a racist. Growing up, England claimed, he had many friends of all races and he is not a racist. Three calls to crime stoppers after the murders tell another story.
I think that the whole denial of Jake England being a racist is a joke. I have been following this story since England was arrested, and I have to say that I believe he is a racist. Posting a comment online is one thing, but posting a comment online and then killing three people you just posted a hate comment towards is just stupidity. I believe that England and Watts will be found guilty, if they go to trial, and they will have to face life in prison for their crimes.
