Gingrich Cuts Staff to Focus on Convention

According to the New York Times, Republican nominee Newt Gingrich is cutting much of his campaign staff as of March 27th. After acknowledging that it is impossible for him to clinch enough delegates to win the nomination before the Republican Convention is held in Florida, the Gingrich campaign is reportedly cutting up to 1/3 of its current staff. Communications director, Joe DeSantis said that this decision will focus and prepare Newt Gingrich to win the official GOP nomination in the upcoming "tossup period." The Republican candidate states that he will look for bold and contrasting ideas and policies that provide a stark contrast to the decisions made by the Obama administration.
Personally, I am so thankful that Newt Gingrich is cutting his campaign back. Thus far, he has only served to pilfer delegate votes from other candidates and cause destractions in a very important Republican political race. Honestly, I cannot see any possible way that Gingrich could win the nomination at the Republican convention. Hopefully, this decision is an indicator that he will soon drop out intirely. We can only hope.

  1. I think, at this point, that it is inevitable that Gingrich will drop out at some point. Despite his claims to be in for the long haul, I think that we can now say with almost complete certainty that Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul will not be winning the Republican Nomiation. Frankly, I think it would be an embarrassment to the Republican party to allow them to continue.

  2. Focus on the convention? At this point in the race and seeing the numbers on the delegate count, it looks like that it won't be the brokered convention the anti-Romney vote is looking for. This looks like it's going to be the ordinary convention with the inevitable nominee accepting the nomination. But yes, this is the right thing to do for Gingrich as he has no chance of winning the nomination (unless there is a brokered convention). But if he's really saying he's still got a chance to win the nomination, I don't think cutting the staff on your campaign is the right thing to do.

  3. It does seem half cocked - right? Obviously the message Newt is sending out has nothing to do with trying to gain the nomination. I am wondering what it is though - and whether the casino financier is calling the shots, since he pretty much owns him now, right? Knife cuts both ways?
