This article goes over the worst hurricanes, tsunamis, and other natural disasters of 2011. There were many earthquakes through out last year, but the biggest one, at an 8.9 magnitude, hit Japan. This was the largest earthquake to ever hit Japan, bringing other problems along with it. It triggered a tsunami which made everything ten times worse. There was even the possibility of two nuclear plants leaking radiation. There were many other earthquakes, but Japans had the worst outcome. There was over 1,500 deaths and almost all buildings, bridges, roads, and dams were ruined. After the tsunami hit, their predictions were right, and there was radiation in the air.
This article really struck me as interesting. I have read about this many times, but this one really got my attention. It compared the Japan earthquake to others that year, which I had not done. The damage was terrible in comparison to those. The pictures were also ones I had never viewed before, and I'm definitely a visual person so those were very good at catching my attention. The fact that all of this happened so quickly but will take a very long time to fix makes me sick. There is so much that still needs to be done to repair all of the damages, and only a certain amount of money to do that with. It was a devastating occurance and it is still a big deal today, especially with the radiation leak.
Good summary. Perfect article for your topic!
ReplyDeleteIt's crazy that you see these natural disasters happen to places that are already living in tough times. The US hasn't had anything TOO major since hurricane Katrina, besides a few serious tornadoes. I think one day the US will be hit with something very devastating like an earthquake out west sometime in the future though.
ReplyDeleteI pray every night for the people of Japan, they have gone through way to many problems and I can't even imagine what it must be like there trying to rebuild and deal with the radiation.
