This article written by an Australian reporter talks abut how the United States must ban the "Juvenile Life Without Parole" sentence. From this reporter's opinion it is a terrible and harsh punishment for a child and should be banned. Austrailia and their government are saying that the USA must ban the imposition of life without parole sentence againt children and review the cases of nearly 2,500 prisoners currently serving such sentence. The reporter states that in the United States that children under 18 are not allowed to vote, buy alchohol, lottery tickets, or conset most forms of medical treatment but can be sentenced to die in prison for their actions. Children as young as 11 have been given this sentence.
The most important things that I have learned from this topic would be that something needs to be done about the policy that children can be tried as adults and be given life without parole. Also, I have learned tht knowing how a child's brain functions and develops is key to judging cases that could result in this sentence. The third and most important thing I learned is that services and interventions done in the jail systems need to be improved for all types of criminals to make sure that once released that they are not relapsing and making the same mistakes all over again, causing them to end up in jail once more.
10 good info through term
