10 Egyptian candidates banned from election

http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/story/2012-04-14/egypt-presidential-election/54277574/1

The article explains that ten candidates running for president in Egypt have been disqualified from the race, with little to no reason why. The candidates have 48 hours to appeal the decision, and three of the ten were so far considered front runners in the race. Thirteen other candidates have been approved to run for president, and a final list of the candidates will be released on April 26. The Egyptian election is scheduled to take place at the end of May, but could be pushed back to June if needed. The article also talks about an obscure rule that says a candidate is not eligible to run if their spouse or parents currently hold any citizenship other than Egyptian.
The fact that the government can decide who can and cannot run without reason shows that there is possibly some kind of corruption or too much governmental control. It is good that Egypt is getting an election set in place, to get rid of the temporary military control in the government, because that could lead to future problems. The rule that family members cannot have dual citizenship, seems to me, a stretch of rules to find ways to disqualify candidates the government doesn't necessarily approve of. At least the candidates have some kind of option to attempt to get back into the race, but it's probably unlikely they will be reinstated after their initial disqualification.
