In 2002 when the United States reported their weapon sales exports to the United Nations, they reported a sale of 2,879 weapons to 23 countries. This is a decrease from the 1997 numbers where the US sold 4,759 weapons. The top importers of weapons from the US were Taiwan, Spain, and Brazil. Taiwan acquired more than 200 missiles, with Spain getting 114 missiles, and Brazil getting 91 tanks, 7 warships, and 2 planes. The region with the most imports from the US was the Middle East with Egypt and Israel being the top customers for the American enterprise.
