Egypt Must Stop Children's Trials

http://english.al-akhbar.com/content/egypt-must-stop-trials-children-military-courts-hrw

Human Rights Watch on Tuesday called on Egypt's military rulers to end all investigations and trials of children before military courts. The New York-based rights watchdog said that together with an Egyptian activist group, No Military Trials for Civilians, it had documented 43 cases of juveniles taken before military prosecutors since a popular uprising last year toppled president Hosni Mubarak and saw the military take power.

I believe that no child should be tried as an adult for any type of military account. These children who were  taking place in these uprising know no better then to follow their elders, and that is exactly what they did. Though no child that I know of is being charged with any type of murder there are some who are being investigated for charges that could put them in jail for a long time. These children, when they do need to be punished, are growing up in a very unorganized country where power is being thrown around to anyone who possesses the greatest, most violent threat. In my mind, these children were born and raised with violence all around them.

I believe that this source is from a Lebanon website called Al-akhbar.com The site shows Lebanon's foreign language and can be translated into many others. There are credible Lebanese sources which are found on the site as well. There are many articles and about issues all over the world all of which are posted and edited by credible authors.

  1. I also agree with Taylor. I find it rediculous that they can charge a child of something they did, when they were only ordered to do it in the first place. I mean I would probably do the same thing. I'm sure it wasn't a very friendly environment, and disobedience would not end well. Also children grow up their whole lives being taught to submit and listen to adults, so is it fair that you punish them for only doing what they thought was the best option? Finally they live pretty much in a constant state of war, obviously they are going to see their military leaders as someone they should listen to.
