Invisible Children Tips Uganda to Ex-Rebel

The Kony 2012 video that drew attention to Ugandan warlord Joseph Kony helped the Ugandan government find a former child soldier wanted by the Kampala government. Invisible Children told Ugandan officials that a man wanted by security officials was staying with them in the city of Gulu. The man with Invisible Children was Patrick Komakech who had been abducted by Kony and his rebels at the age of nine and was wanted for being part of the new anti-government movement in northern Africa. Komakech was immediately arrested by the Ugandan government after word from the Invisible Children. Invisible Children later released a statement saying they were saddened by the allegations and they were cooperative in providing information to the U.S.

I don't think this should have any effect on the public opinion of Invisible Children. They were only trying to help a person get their life back on track who had been abducted by Kony when he was a young boy. Invisible Children could have had no idea about Komakech's involvement in the overthrow of the Ugandan government. Invisible Children did right by cooperating in giving as much information as possible to the United States and Uganda. I hope Komakech doesn't face a huge punishment from the government and can go back to schooling and getting his life back together.

I searched for a Ugandan site since that is where Kony is sometimes located, but this site turned out to be from Los Angeles. The top has a banner that says "Reuters Africa" so I think the site is only about Africa, but it is still based in the U.S. The stories on the side are also all about Africa so that proves even more that the site is based only about Africa. I think the site is sort of an internet African newspaper because there is a "Sports" section and a "Top News" section as well as many others.

  1. I agree that Invisible Children did the right thing by giving up all of the information that they knew. It should not hurt them or have any effect on their situation and how the public views it.
