Obama OKs Oil Exploration Along Atlantic Coast, But not Drilling

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/03/obama-oks-oil-exploration-along-atlantic-coast-but-not-drilling/

This article is about how Obama approved to go ahead and explore for oil in Virginia. He however, did not approve to go ahead and start drilling. Republicans are saying this is just a show for him to have an advantage to win the reelection. If Obama approves the drilling, it could cost thousand of Virginians jobs while also on the other hand creating thousands. The drilling also is predicted to produce 750 million barrels of oil. Obama is taking a lot of heat for the decision and many say he will not approve the drilling in the long run either way.

In my opinion, Obama should approve the drilling as soon as he finds out where the oil is in Virginia. I think that Americans would be happy with him if he did, maybe im wrong. Drilling the for oil would lower gas prices which is a big concern in todays world. The republicans are really trying to make Obama look badly on the issue, when in fact is a big decision to make so he wants to take his time with it. Some of the Virginians will be happy with it for the new jobs and some will be upset for losing their jobs, but in life not everyone can be happy.

  1. I think we should drill for oil only if the number of overall jobs increases. Plus it would be nice for us to have 750 million more barrels of oil. I don't understand why Obama is taking a lot of "heat" if it will increase jobs and more oil.

  2. I think the decision to drill or not should depend on the location and what jobs are at stake. The people whose jobs are lost would not necessarily be qualified for the jobs created. This would cause people out of state to take jobs from Virginians, which I would understand why they would be upset. On a positive side, I'm glad the U.S. is looking for new fuel resources to lower gas prices and our foreign dependence.

  3. I feel like Obama is just trying to stay popular in the election. To me it seems he has no intentions of drilling even if he were to find oil. In the past he has been against it, so I don't see why it would change now. But by looking he is making almost everyone content. Those who don't want him to drill are not mad because he hasn't. But those who do want drilling are happy because this seems like one step away from that. I think he just needs to start drilling, because it's going to eventually happen anyways.
