Russia's Solution to Corruption

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sponsored/russianow/politics/9180719/Dmitry-Medvedev-corruption-Russia.html

So this article is very intrersting. It goes over some issues that russia is currently experiencing and having to deal with for some time now. Then the it goes on to talk about how russia has started a "Anti-Corruption Council". Their goal is to find and eliminate any corruption found in goverment, police, businesses and so on. They are hoping that this will limit corruption withen Ruissa, and even hope to lower its rating on the corruption scale.

To me this seems like a big step in the right direction. At the same time I have my doubts about this being the answer. Who is to say that this "council" won't become corrupt itself. I also don't believe it will solve all the problems they have, just help reduce the amount. All-in-all there are worse things they could be doing, but this seems like a great thing to start up!

  1. I'm just wondering why now? Russia has been extremely corrupt for many years, and it seems that nothing but a complete change in government could help that. The corruption council's success will also rely on the amount of power and influence they have to actually remove people from office. I would say the council is a positive idea, but it would almost take the help of another unbiased, in influenced country to actually work. I don't think Russia is going to be improved any time soon.
